About Us

Almost sixty years ago, 23 year old Bill Pitt visualized a world class network of real estate services that was exclusive to Fairfield County, CT and its surrounding towns. His vision is precisely what William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty® is today: a network of professionals armed with the unique combination of local area knowledge and global expertise that can only bring the best in real estate services to their clients.
A History of Growth
The first William Pitt Real Estate office was opened as a one man shop in 1949 by Bill Pitt in Stamford, Connecticut. By 1970, Pitt had expanded the company to include offices in Greenwich, Darien and New Canaan. During the 1970’s and 1980’s he continued to realize his vision by opening offices in Ridgefield, Westport, Danbury, Norwalk, Wilton, Fairfield and Trumbull. By the late 1990’s, William Pitt Real Estate had offices in Newtown, Redding, Southbury and Washington, CT and was poised for explosive growth in the new millennium.
In 1998, Paul Breunich joined Bill Pitt and Casey Jones as a managing partner. Jones and Breunich assumed control of the privately held and operated William Pitt Real Estate in 2001. Under their leadership, William Pitt continued to expand throughout Fairfield County, adding offices in Rowayton, Southport, and Wilton. In 2004, the firm expanded beyond Fairfield County for the first time with an office in Avon.
In January, 2005, William Pitt announced a new franchise agreement with Sotheby’s International Realty. 21 offices and 500-Plus sales associates remain independently owned by Jones and Breunich and now do business as William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty®. By partnering with an internationally renowned brand, William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty® sales associates have expanded marketing resources and gained access to an unsurpassed international network of buyers and sellers while still maintaining their local area expertise.
In 2005 and 2006, William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty® added offices in Stratford, Monroe, Madison, Avon, Simsbury, Farmington, Bethel, Essex, Oxford, Rowayton, Southport and Stonington.
Today, William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty® has a total of 25 offices, with over 850 sales associates and annual transactions exceeding $2 billion.
